 Sessions and Talks @FWO 2021

We know it is not quite the same as playing in a cramped and noisy bar, but we have a range of compered sessions and talks happening in our session Zoom room throughout the weekend. Just click on the links in the schedule below to join.

Friday 16th April

10pm - 12am  The Bastard English  An Oxford classic, this session runs once a month at the Isis Tavern on the river Thames. Traditional English songs and tunes and timeless pop classics. Take me there!

Saturday 17th April

12pm  talk on Alfred Williams by Graham Carter  Poet and railwayman Alfred Williams was one of the most important folk song collectors of the 20th century, his Folk Songs of the Upper Thames a classic in its field. Learn about his life and work in this fascinating talk. Take me there!

2pm - 4pm  Slow Session  Another Oxford regular, the idea of this session is to start as slow as necessary so everyone can join in and maybe gradually get faster. Take me there! (For a list of tunes, and to keep up with what they are up to beyond Folk Weekend, check out their website - https://oxfordslowsession.com.

4pm - 6pm Americana Session  For those of you who like to keep in touch with what they have done with our music on the other side of the pond, this is the session for you. Take me there!

7pm - 9pm  Mike Gibson's Forebitter or Worse  Singaround session of shanties and songs of the sea. (We hear they are having a bit of a moment just now.) Take me there!

Sunday 18th April

4pm - 6pm  Singaround with Jack Walker  Another session that had a regular real-life existence at the Half Moon in Oxford before Covid hit, this is one session where singing unaccompanied is not simply allowed but actively encouraged. Take me there!

8pm - 10pm  Oxfordshire Singaround Session  Bring Folk Weekend to a joyful conclusion with the regulars from Bampton and Finstock Folk Clubs. Take me there!
